Returning To Our Pig-Farming Roots
Before we first opened our store in the early 1940's, Bringhurst Meats operated a pig farm that supplied butcher shops and stores throughout South Jersey. Although we eventually moved away from farming to concentrate on our wholesale and retail operations, we remained committed to providing the highest quality meats. While we’re fully confident in the farms that supply us today, raising our own pigs gives us more consistent and complete control over the quality of our heritage breed pork we offer. About Heritage Breed Pigs Heritage breed pigs take us back to a more marbled and flavorful pork, . Now it is growing in popularity as consumers discover its superior flavor. |
Succulent Pork
Heritage breed pork is so moist and tender that it is often compared to Kobe beef. The meat is more red / less white than the pork you’ll find in grocery stores.
Advance Orders Only
At this time our Heritage breed pork will not be available in the store. It will be available only via special order of a whole animal, half share, or quarter share. Whole or half pig orders will be cut to your specifications. Quantities are limited. A $50 non-refundable deposit is required to reserve yours. Raised Humanely & Locally
Consumers appreciate that Heritage breeds are usually raised on small local farms instead of large corporate operations. We are currently raising a drift of Heritage breeds on one of our adjacent fields. They are pasture-raised free of GMO feed, hormones, antibiotics, and steroids. We are offering them in quarter, half, and whole shares that will be available in late October. Share prices and expected weights are provided below.
Special Introductory Pricing
Our prices tend to be very competitive, but our Heritage breed Pork is an exceptional value. Our whole pigs are just $4.09 lb. hanging weight.. about $5.25 lb. for the pork you take home. Heritage breed pork is not widely available, and retail prices typically range anywhere from $14 to $30 a pound, depending on the cut.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Q: How much freezer space will I need? A: A whole pig will require 6 cubic feet of space. Allow 1.5 cubic feet for a quarter share and 3 cubic feet for a half share. Q: Can I buy Heritage breed bacon or sausage in your store? A: At this time our Heritage breed product is available only as whole, half, or quarter animals. They will be cut, wrapped and packed for your convenience, ready to consume or freeze. Q: What is "hanging weight"? A: Hanging weight is the weight of the pig after it is "dressed" (internal organs removed) and hung on a rail in a cooler. The hanging weight of our Heritage pigs at harvest will average around 200 lbs. That will yield about 160 lbs. of pork after trimming. When your pig is ready for harvest we'll contact you with the exact hanging weight. Q: Why are the prices based on hanging weights? A: Pricing whole, half, and quarter animals by hanging weight is a standard industry practice. We price them that way so you may easily compare our prices to other sources. The meat you'll take home after it's cut and trimmed will be approximately 80% of the hanging weight, so here are the approximate prices of the Heritage pork you'll take home: Whole Pig: Approx. $820 ($5.13 lb.)
Half Pig: Approx. $430 ($5.38 lb.) Quarter Pig: Approx. $225 ($5.63 lb.) Vertical Divider
